Prayer for Life…Something

There is a part of me that will never understand, and never know the feelings of being in a crisis pregnancy.   Did I have sex before I was married? Sure.  Was I lucky not to have to deal with a pregnancy before I was married?  Absolutely.   In many ways I was the one who thought he was invincible and it would not happen to me.   My bet is that most don’t think that it will happen to them.  Not to mention the married couples who opt for abortion, and listening to my mother in-law these couples have all kinds of reasons.

You know who isn’t invincible and who has no say in the matter? …The person conceived by our arrogance of invincibility and the one not given a voice in our reasons why we aren’t ready…the one who can’t do ANYTHING.

I read this yesterday from a woman who has been on both sides.

In that moment of reading that TWEET from Tammy… I understood.  I don’t know and will never know, but I understand.  There was pain then.  Still to this day after all the healing Tammy has been through…There is still, I won’t call it pain, but a longing to know.  Tammy knows she is forgiven by the King of Kings, and knows her guilt is wiped clean.  But you see she knows…  She knows what I do not… But I understand.  I wonder about the men from her story, and not understanding their role in her knowing… Did they know they could do ANYTHING?

Because I understand I push forward into an unknown.  Because I understand I look at the forest of trees, caused by every abortion an wonder how I will ever chop them all down… I look into the tasks before me an try to make reason of why this why now… Then I think of a this:

My wife is beside me everyday, and she knows I would go to the ends of the earth for her.  My children our my mission. But how I grew up is an important factor in how today I love my wife and children.

I grew up the youngest an only boy with 7 older sisters.  I would do anything in my power to protect them and keep them from harm.  ANYTHING.   I have seen them all become successful, and each one has a man in their lives that supports and loves them through ANYTHING….  ANYTHING….

Anything God Asks I will do. one tree at a time…Anything he places before me I will stand up to and in the name of Christ…ANYTHING…the anything now is Men who lack the understanding of knowing that they have a voice.  When their world of invincibility comes crashing down, they do not have to sit idle.  They can stand, and they to can to ANYTHING… My mission is to turn knowing they can do ANYTHING, into SOMETHING, knowing that they to have a voice when they thought they had NOTHING.

One tree at a time….

What are you expecting…

So I got my first question asked in the feedback section and it is a dozy:

I saw your ask a question section, so I will ask one (or a few) I have pondered a great deal Do Christians long for a stronger economy? safer cities and neighborhoods? better education? more integrity in politics? more respect for traditional values? a greater respect for other Christians? more godly laws? cleaner television and movies? an end to abortion, pornography, homosexuality, and violence? In short, a better world? Do these longings represent their hopes for the future? If so, why? Do Christians believe they have a right to expect these things from society? Do Christians believe that the Lord even expects them to demand those rights? And if they are not forthcoming, to fight for them? The Lord promises a new heaven and a new earth. To long for them is normal and even right. But what exactly do Christians have a right to expect while in this world, in its present condition – besides animosity, hostility, and tribulation, that is Here is my main question…. Do Christians have a right to expect any of the societal improvements mentioned above? If so, on what Scriptural basis?

WOW… It took me overnight to digest through my thoughts on these questions, but I will focus on this one:  Do Christians have a right to expect any of the societal improvements mentioned above?

I will admit that I do not often ponder large questions like this.   I tend to be very practical and look at issues from the root cause, and what can I do to change the root cause.  So when presented with this question, the first thing I thought of was how has this process worked out in my life.  Well I am living it, in the Spiritual Battle over abortion. People want to make abortion a political/social issue, and in the arms and thoughts of society it is.  On both sides of the issue people vote for or against candidates in elections solely based on where they stand on the issue.  Expecting which ever person is elected to change things to their point of view and beliefs.

When I started working in the area of Abortion I wrote this in my first post for Prayer for Life:

There has never been a time in my life where I would say I supported abortion and I am positive it would never be an option I condone. But I can also say I never got close enough to it to understand and see both sides. I had never gotten dirty in the trenches, and learned the lessons. Lessons I could work with and through beyond the mission field. I had not seen the faces and emotions involved. I had not seen and experienced the spiritual battle raging…I had stood by apathetically assuming I knew better and that was ok. I never knew that my apathy left me inactive in God’s Kingdom work.

And  there in I believe lies the answer to the question.  I thought I could sit back and watch society take care of the problem.  Almost as if yes I expected a change from society… I just don’t think we can expect anything from  society, no matter the issue, to change if we personally sit back in apathy doing nothing.    I don’t think Jesus sits back apathetically, and hopes we change.  No Jesus is active and working in the lives of those who follow him changing them to His will.

When it comes to any of the social/economic issues listed in the questions above we just can not expect everything.   Want social justice that spreads equality?  I am going to be brutally honest.  Don’t expect something to happen just because you have an opinion or belief about an issue.  I don’t care what side of the debate you are on, or if I agree with you or not.  Get off your butt and do what it is you expect to affect the root cause of the issue.

From the perspective of a follower of Christ, we are commanded to do just that.  We are commanded to action and commanded to do that which is counter to society.   Most often we hear Jesus talk about those in need.  The Poor, the Widows and the Orphans.   We can look to Jesus’ response to the rich man:

Matthew 19: 17- 22 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he inquired.     Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’[ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”  20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”    21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”  22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. (Emphasis Mine)

The rebuke he gave the Pharisees:

Luke 11:39-41 Then the Lord said to him, “Now then, you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. 40 You foolish people! Did not the one who made the outside make the inside also? 41 But now as for what is inside you—be generous to the poor, and everything will be clean for you. (Emphasis Mine)

In both of those instances to different audiences Jesus call’s them to social action to take care of those in need.   He did not say, give to the Government and expect the Government to take care of the poor.  He did not say, vote for this person because they believe what you believe.  No, Jesus told them what it meant to live a life according to His example.  An example of action, not expectation…

We can want society to change, but our Hope for that change is in Christ Jesus.   Him working through us for His will, can affect the cause of the situation.  It is only Him that will bring about the new creation of a society according to His will, and that is where our Hope is placed.

So can we expect anything man does to change society to the morals and social justice we expect as followers of Christ?  No, not by the work of human hands.  Only by Jesus’ nail scarred hands.

I believe there is more to tackle here, and I could write for days I am sure.  So stay tuned… Thanks to Swanny for posing the question.

Meek

A discussion on Meek based on Matt 5:5 sent me searching the concordance and greek…

What was Christ meaning when he says meek….

The problem is there is only one word for meek and meekness.:

prautes or praotes as a Noun: Blessed are the meek Matt 5:5

praus as an adjective: The meekness of Christ. II Cor 10:1

Meek- used from what I see towards man
Meekness – used when describing Christ.

In terms of Christ Meek does mean Humble in Spirit, but for man it means not able to help himself. The following was in the commentary I found on meek at blueletterbible.com:

————

The common assumption is that when a man is meek it is because he cannot help himself; but the Lord was ‘meek’ because he had the infinite resources of God at His command. Described negatively, meekness is the opposite to self-assertiveness and self-interest; it is equanimity of spirit that is neither elated nor cast down, simply because it is not occupied with self at all.

————

So blessed are those who cannot help themselves, puts a bit of a different spin on it, and focuses our reliance on God and his Kingdom among us.

The world Laughs at us…

Last night my Facebook status was:

The message of Christ is not just to fill your mind with more information. It is to affect your heart and how you live.

Monday I read this article  on yahoo http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20100612/sc_livescience/newtheoryforlifesfirstenergysource#mwpphu-container

One of the comments to the article got my attention

ha it is going to so great when they find the actual start up of mankind. not some made up story about a old white man…lol….then you all wasted your life doing so called right things…..wow but yall did pay for those million dollar churches on the corners….so be proud of that an cry a little everynight that you bought in on a story aka the bible…lol… and then lived your life trying to get to a place that is not even real…just pityfull …but i am laughing at you right now…haha

Is that what the Bible is to you a story?   Or is it a truth that reveals God and his plan,

And the mere idea that God doesn’t exist, doesn’t mean he doesn’t…

People point to the Bible as proof of God’s existence.  It is not, it is the revelation of His plan, to his people.   The proof of his existence is how His people live based on knowing that plan.

So yes the world will continue to laugh at us if we do not act according to God’s plan.

The thoughts for today…

Job 38. Who is the expert on the Cosmos Carl Sagan or God?

Put Jesus in any profession and he would be the best at it without any training.

My wife is my “Helper”, look up the Hebrew. She completes my purpose in God.

I am at a point in my life that I am really understanding Joy, and what it means to have Joy in Christ all the time.

My faith in Christ is simple, not simple minded, because I approach my faith with the simple trust of a child.

Good Lazy Sunday with the family.

Thoughts from today

- When something is over your head it doesn’t mean it is over your heart.

- Christ introduces us to a new kind of life.  One that is counter to culture, radical in design, and good for his purpose.

- Have you thought to much about the power of your ideas, and ignored the idea and power of Christ in your life.

- Atheist are just as faithful to there ideas of truth as Disciples of Christ are to His truth

- We think about and learn many things in our life, what of those things drives our moral compas?

- If we understood everything God revealed, there is no room for faith.

- When we believe the lies of the world we prostitute our lives to the world.

- Jesus was and is the smartest man alive.  He could talk circles around quantum physics with any current scientist, yet he chose not to.  He chose to talk to us about living this life in relationship to Him and others.  Wonder what is most important?

These are from notes taken during a discussion on chapters 1 and 2 from Dallas Willard’s Book The Divine Conspiracy.

Facebooks quest for community…

For awhile I have been contemplating Facebook, and what about it makes it the largest and fastest growing social networking site/service on the internet, in spite of all the issues with privacy.

Yes I have a Facebook account, but my security settings are locked down tight, and I am very careful who I friend.  That being said I came across this blog entry on CNet.com, that talks about Facebook’s mission. This paragraph really stood out.

As the Internet has made us more isolated, it’s made us crave, with ever greater intensity, the company of others. Facebook is perhaps the world’s greatest and most interesting experiment in how much we are prepared to open up ourselves, how much, indeed, we’re prepared to give up of ourselves, in order to gain some kind of emotional, if not physical, connection with others. (Even when those “others” are brands and not people.)

Community forces us yes to be vulnerable but the community we are really meant for forces us to open up beyond the screens of the internet.  Here is what I truly think community is…

———- Originally posted on Philter48.com—————-

This world is built on it , we are created for it. yet we miss it cause we are to busy looking for it in the wrong places.

Something is happening, can you feel it?   More and more people I run into are talking about it.  Something is missing in this world and people are starting to wonder if we can get back what we have lost.  With all the craziness in the, the distractions, and the apathy… Can we get back what we are truly meant to be a part of?

Everyone seems to agree there is an innate need in every person to believe in something.  I believe in and follow Christ, son of the one true God and the one and only way to the Father.

There is also an innate need to learn/understand.  We are seekers of knowledge.  Lets face it we have to learn to do everything in life at some level, and we do that by gaining knowledge through experience and study.

Ok so belief in something and learning/understanding are fairly well held universal needs every human has.  There is still this other need.

We are meant for community just as He (Elohim) is himself a community.

We are made in God’s image and in Genesis 1 when God says:  “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness,” there is a reason to believe that He had this need in mind.  The “our” in this Gen 1 is Elohim, a plural to reference the triune God. This implies that we are to be in the image of God the Father the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The Triune God is Himself a community. God is: The Father our authority, who judges our actions, gave us Jesus our example of what our actions should be, who left us his Spirit our guide, so we can live under the authority, by transforming us into the example. The three being one are in Community working with each other. One can not work without the other, and to deny one is to deny all.

We also read in Genesis 2, right after God creates man, he says:   “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”    Did you catch that? It is not good for us to be alone. (I know God says man here and many use this as a connection to marriage between a man and woman.  It very much is, it also shows that we are meant for relationship with another, an in the case of Community, others.)

Being made in God’s image, he recognizes we are not meant to work through this life alone.  So if God in His very nature is community, it would stand to reason that we(being created in their image Gen 1:26) are to be in community with not only God but other believers of His Son.  Other wise we will break:

Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

When Paul says God will provide you a way out of temptation, so you may stand up under it… WOW… That way to stand up is community, not in isolation.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

We have to have the right people in our lives to lean on so we can resist temptation in the first place, but also to be called into account when we step out of line.

God wants his children to be connected, to a community who will prop each other up, support, encourage, pray, and hold each other accountable. Whatever that group looks like, as long as the focus is on Christ, Him as the model, and everyone is working to be more like Him.

Freedom, but not to destroy…

We are meant to be free, and many have died for the freedom we experience in this country. And we honer them for their love of this Country.

To truly be free we must Love each other, and not destroy each other in spite of that love.

Gal 5:13-15 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

View’s of God

1 Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:

2 “Who is this that obscures my plans
with words without knowledge?
3 Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
